Hopkins                       Dangriga                       Belmopan                     Belize City

Hopkins Village is a coastal village in eastern Belize.

The village of Hopkins is located just off the Southern Highway about 15 miles south of Dangriga.  This small fishing village is surrounded by nature and populated by friendly people. The people of Hopkins are some of the most genuine people in the world.  The majority of the inhabitants are Garifuna and celebrate their culture.  There are many wonderful local restaurants and lodging establishments. The village is home to some of the most beautiful beach front property in Belize.

Dangriga is the closest town to Anderson Point and the largest town in the Stann Creek District.  "Mabuiga" reads the welcome sign greeting visitors who come by bus.  At the entrance, you are greeted by the statue of the Drums of Our Fathers.  There are often drumming concerts for your listening delight.  The Garifuna have adopted the Carib language but kept their African musical and religious traditions (of Amerindian and African ancestry).  They are the majority of a population of about 9,000.

After Hurricane Hattie in 1961 destroyed approximately 75% of the houses and business places in low-lying and coastal Belize City, the government proposed the building of a new capital city. This new capital would be on better terrain, would entail no costly reclamation of land, and would provide for an industrial area. In 1962, a committee chose the site now known as Belmopan, 82 kilometres (51 mi) west of the old capital of Belize City.

Since Belize was a British colony (known as British Honduras) in 1964, Premier George Cadle Price ...

Belize City is the largest city in the Central American country of Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City has a population of 57,169 people in 16,162 households. It is located at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, which is a tributary of the Belize River. The Belize River empties into the Caribbean Sea 5 miles from Belize City on the Philip Goldson Highway on the coast of the Caribbean. The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub.

"Belize is one of the easiest places to retire. It's English speaking,
has a low cost of living, and no taxes. And it's in the Caribbean. In fact,
it's probably the last place where you can still get affordable Caribbean real estate."
